Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo discussed the implications of the Constitutional Court’s recent decision regarding pension reform in an interview with El Heraldo. The court sent the reform back to the House of Representatives due to procedural irregularities, suspending its provisions. This affects individuals who were preparing for a July 1 transition date, as future timelines now hinge on congressional action.
Cuervo highlighted that measures such as express transfers are paused until both legislative chambers debate and agree on a final version of the reform. “The effective date was July 1, but there are already significant effects — for example, people who were counting on that date to complete their transition will no longer be able to use it as a reference point, and will now have to wait for whatever date Congress determines,” he explained.
