Cooley special counsel Asha Allam spoke at the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) 2025 Regulatory Summit, highlighting recent changes in how the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is handling product recalls. During her presentation, Allam noted that CPSC is increasing its enforcement efforts regarding product recalls and urged those involved in the furniture industry to be proactive about safety.

According to Allam, “furniture makers, retailers and distributors must proactively report potential hazards and demonstrate product safety – or risk civil penalties and even criminal investigations.”

Allam’s comments suggest that companies operating in this sector should review their reporting processes and compliance measures to avoid regulatory consequences.
