TanQuid, a major independent liquid petrochemical storage operator in Germany, is set to be sold by Macquarie-managed funds to Sunoco. The company, headquartered in Duisburg, operates over 3 million cubic meters of storage facilities across 15 sites in Germany and one in Poland. These sites are strategically located at important transportation points.

Macquarie first invested in TanQuid in 2005. Over the past two decades, the firm has supported TanQuid’s growth through organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. The total capacity of TanQuid’s portfolio increased from 2.5 million cubic meters to more than 3.1 million cubic meters today, with the number of tank farm sites doubling from eight to sixteen.

In line with its growth strategy, TanQuid diversified its business towards energy transition products. It became one of the first German operators to store commercial hydrotreated vegetable oil and sustainable aviation fuel, maintaining a leading position in this market segment.

The transaction between Macquarie and Sunoco is expected to reach financial close within 2025, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

The A&O Shearman team handling this transaction was led by partner Max Landshut and counsel Marie-Luise von Buchwaldt from Corporate/M&A in Hamburg.
