Milbank LLP has announced the addition of Colleen Roh Sinzdak, a former Assistant to the Solicitor General in the United States Department of Justice, as a partner in its Washington, DC office. Her appointment is expected to enhance the firm’s appellate bench.

“Colleen is a highly regarded member of the Supreme Court and appellate bar and we are thrilled to welcome her to the firm,” said Milbank Chairman. “Her extensive experience, spanning her time in private practice to her more recent role as Assistant to the Solicitor General, will bring practical insight into many of the complex and novel legal issues facing our clients.”

Ms. Sinzdak’s expertise lies in appellate and complex litigation, with a focus on life sciences and health care, emerging technologies, bankruptcy, and white-collar cases. During her nearly six-year tenure at the Solicitor General’s Office, she represented the United States before the Supreme Court and managed litigation strategies for major cases headed for higher courts. She has argued 11 times before the Supreme Court and frequently appeared in courts of appeals.

Neal Katyal commented on Ms. Sinzdak’s addition: “Colleen is widely understood to be one of the very top superstars to emerge from the US Solicitor General’s Office. As we continue to build our Supreme Court and Appellate practices, Colleen was our top choice to add further strength to the group.”

The firm has recently expanded its team by welcoming several notable litigators including Mr. Katyal himself and Mr. Havemann as partners.

“We are delighted to welcome a lawyer of Colleen’s stature to the firm,” said another partner managing Milbank’s Washington office. “Neal and his team have hit the ground running since joining the firm, and Colleen will further accelerate that growth.”

Ms. Sinzdak expressed enthusiasm about joining Milbank: “I am excited to join this phenomenal team of litigators at this next stage of my career.” Her previous roles include clerking for Judge Merrick Garland on the U.S. Court of Appeals for D.C., Chief Justice John Roberts on the U.S. Supreme Court, practicing at Covington & Burling LLP, and Hogan Lovells.

She holds degrees from Harvard Law School (J.D.), Cambridge University (M.A., B.A.), and Columbia University (B.A.).
