NRG Energy to acquire LS Power assets for $12 billion

Global law firm White & Case LLP is providing legal counsel to NRG Energy, Inc. in its acquisition of a power portfolio from LS Power, valued at approximately $12 billion. This deal includes natural gas generation facilities and a commercial and industrial virtual power plant platform.

The acquisition will significantly increase NRG’s generation capacity with 18 new natural gas-fired facilities across nine states, totaling around 13 gigawatts. It will also expand NRG’s presence in the Northeast and Texas.

Additionally, NRG is set to acquire CPower, a leading commercial and industrial virtual power plant platform operating in all deregulated energy markets across the United States. CPower serves over 2,000 customers with approximately six gigawatts of capacity.

The M&A team at White & Case is led by partner Thomas Christopher, with support from partners Keith Hallam and Morgan Hollins, among others. Financing aspects are managed by Debt Finance partner Eliza McDougall and Capital Markets partner Daniel Nam. The transaction also involves various specialists from different sectors within White & Case.
