King & Spalding has announced the addition of Rob DeConti to its Healthcare team within the Government Matters and Regulation practice group. DeConti, who will serve as a partner, is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
DeConti previously held positions as Chief Counsel and Deputy Inspector General for the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG). During his tenure at OIG, he led efforts that involved acting as a liaison with the U.S. Department of Justice on healthcare enforcement actions under the False Claims Act. His responsibilities also included enforcing HHS’s healthcare fraud remedies, such as program exclusion and negotiating Corporate Integrity Agreements. DeConti’s expertise covers healthcare fraud and abuse laws like the Anti-Kickback Statute and Beneficiary Inducement Statute.
Mark Polston, co-chair of King & Spalding’s Life Sciences and Healthcare Industry Group, stated: “With more than 25 years at the HHS Office of Inspector General, including as its Chief Counsel, Rob brings a wealth of leadership and experience in the healthcare fraud and investigations issues that affect every healthcare, medical device, clinical lab and pharmaceutical company in some way.” He added that DeConti’s experience would enhance their counseling services to clients in various sectors.
DeConti received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining King & Spalding, DeConti said: “King & Spalding is a known leader in the healthcare and life sciences fields… so it feels like a natural fit for me to grow my private practice career here.” He looks forward to working with colleagues on regulatory advice related to healthcare fraud laws.
