A transaction advised by the Ropes & Gray finance team has been recognized as the ‘High Yield Deal of the Year’ at the IFLR Americas Awards. The firm represented Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC, BNP Paribas, J.P. Morgan, and other initial purchasers in the offering of $1.6 billion in senior secured second lien notes by First Quantum Minerals.

This transaction is notable for being the largest mining high yield deal in the past decade and reflects Ropes & Gray’s ongoing collaboration with First Quantum Minerals and its investment banks to support their debt capital market activities.

The IFLR Awards are known for highlighting legal innovation through dealmaking and recognizing efforts that enhance cross-border investment opportunities.

The advisory team was led by finance partner Michael Kazakevich, with counsel Luwam Mezue and associates Clara Melly, Matea Scepanovic, and Alma Yasin focusing on high yield matters. Finance partner Benoit Lavigne and associate Sean Darling provided advice on English law intercreditor issues from London. Additional U.S. securities law guidance was offered by U.S. capital markets partner Craig Marcus from Boston and counsel Marc Rotter from New York.
