The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced that it will start suspending filings on the EDGAR system for fee-bearing forms, such as registration statements, if they contain XBRL errors in filing fee exhibits. This change marks a shift from the agency’s previous practice of issuing warnings for such errors. The new enforcement policy is set to begin on March 16, though some cases may still receive only a warning.
To help filers avoid these suspensions, the SEC recommends using its Fee Exhibit Preparation Tool (FEPT), which is available through EDGARLink Online. This tool allows users to test their filings and receive error warnings before submitting live filings. Early testing with FEPT can help ensure that all XBRL tagging passes EDGAR validation and reduce the risk of having a filing suspended.
