Sidley Austin welcomes new partner John Muno to Chicago office

Sidley Austin LLP has announced the addition of John Muno as a partner in its Chicago office. Muno joins the firm’s Investment Funds group, bringing his expertise from Kirkland & Ellis LLP where he was also a partner.

Muno’s practice centers on forming and operating private equity investment funds with diverse strategies such as leveraged buyouts, distressed investments, secondaries, growth equity, and fund of funds. He has experience representing sponsors in creating both large multibillion-dollar funds and smaller first-time funds across various industries. His advisory roles include handling continuation funds, annex funds, investment structuring, cross-fund transactions, and other complex deals.

Muno is recognized for his proficiency in navigating securities and tax laws alongside tax planning and accounting issues affecting investment firms. He also provides guidance on internal management structuring and governance matters like succession planning and GP stakes transactions.

Over the past year, Sidley has enhanced its Investment Funds practice by adding several key figures including Shane Goudey from Palo Alto who leads the Venture Capital fund formation practice; Mathew Eapen from Boston focusing on venture capital; growth equity; technology-; healthcare-focused funds; Ed Gander leading London’s Private Funds group soon joined by Stephen Fox and Peter Boulle.
