Weil, Gotshal & Manges has been recognized by the World Intellectual Property Review (WIPR) in its 2025 rankings for USA Patents and USA Trade Secrets. The firm received a “Highly Recommended” status in the trade secrets category and was named a “Recommended” firm for contentious patent matters.

Two partners at Weil also received individual honors. Doug Lumish, Co-Head of the IP, Technology & Science Litigation practice, was given a “Highly Recommended” ranking for USA Patents (Contentious) and an “Outstanding” ranking for USA Trade Secrets. Adam Gershenson, who specializes in Complex Commercial Litigation as well as Appeals and Strategic Counseling, earned a “Recommended” ranking for USA Trade Secrets.

WIPR’s report on trade secrets highlighted that clients rely on Weil not only to create preventative frameworks—such as identifying trade secrets, establishing protection protocols, and conducting internal investigations—but also to handle cases involving significant risk. This includes prosecuting and defending multi-jurisdictional misappropriation claims and managing cross-border enforcement actions.

The patents report from WIPR described Weil’s intellectual property practice as strong and respected. It noted that the team covers litigation, technology transactions, IP transactions, and strategic counseling. The publication also praised the expansion of Weil’s IP practice into technology and life sciences.

According to WIPR, its 2025 USA Patents rankings focus on firms involved with high-impact matters in the United States or those developing patent portfolios for major global companies. The 2025 USA Trade Secrets rankings reflect legal challenges such as large verdicts, judicial reversals, and issues arising from artificial intelligence intersecting with proprietary data.
